In un mio recente viaggio in Sardegna, ho avuto la fortuna di visitare lo splendido museo Archeologico di Cagliare, situato all’apice della collina centrale che domina la città dall’alto, permettendo la vista delle saline e  la laguna del Poetto con la popolazione dei fenicotteri da un lato, il porto a sud e gli stagni a ovest.

Il museo ospita una notevole collezione di reperti archeologici dall’età nuragica, fenicia, romana e molto altro. Fra questi pezzi vi sono delle pietre squadrate in basalto, con scavato sulle facciate gli stampi per picconi, martelli per l’estrazione metallurgica dei minerali, o punte per lance o frecce per la realizzazione delle prime armi in bronzo.

La cura e la precisione dei manufatti, e l’utilizzo di più facciate per avere più modelli in fonderia per eseguire varianti formali dei pezzi e contenere gli stampi in un unico modello, sono, a mio giudizio, delle invenzioni notevoli che sono arrivate, con le dovute correzioni, alla tecnologia di fusione a colata dei giorni nostri.

On my recent trip to Sardinia, I was lucky enough to visit the splendid Archaeological Museum of Cagliare, located at the height of the central hill overlooking the city from above, allowing the view of the salt pans and the Poetto lagoon with the population of the flamingos on one side, the port on the south and the ponds on the west.

The museum houses a remarkable collection of archaeological finds from the Nuraghic, Phoenician, Roman age and much more. Among these pieces are basalt squared stones, with dug on the facades, molds for picks, hammers for the metallurgical extraction of minerals, or points for spears or arrows for the making of the first bronze weapons. The care and precision of the products, and the use of several facades to have more foundry models to perform formal variations of the pieces and contain the molds in a single model, are, in my opinion, some notable inventions that have arrived, with the necessary corrections, to the casting technology of today.
